Parmant Florian is a practical secondary school in Eindhoven where learning by doing is at the heart of education. Students follow a programme tailored to their interests, talents, and abilities, allowing them to grow in a way that truly suits them.
Lessons are highly hands-on and closely connected to real-life situations. Practical subjects are combined with applicable theory, helping students understand why they learn what they learn. This prepares them for a suitable job, further education, or a supported pathway into the labour market.
In addition to vocational skills, Parmant Florian places strong emphasis on essential life skills. Students learn how to work together, manage money, live more independently, and prepare for employment, such as applying for jobs and presenting themselves with confidence. In a supportive and structured environment, Parmant Florian helps students build the skills and self-confidence they need for their future.
The Dutch school system explained
In the Netherlands, all children attend primary school from the age of 4 to 12. After primary school, students move on to secondary education, which is divided into three main educational streams. This system allows students to learn at a level that best matches their abilities and learning style.
The three main school track options are:
1. Pre-vocational secondary education (vmbo),
2. Senior general secondary education (havo),
3. Pre-university education (vwo).
At Parmant Florian we offer another educational stream, namely practical training (pro/ praktijkonderwijs). Practical training (pro) is a six year pathway in which students receive intensive instruction and guidance. In smaller classes, students mainly learn from practice and by doing.
PRO – Praktijkonderwijs
Praktijkonderwijs (PRO) is a type of secondary education in the Netherlands that focuses on learning by doing. It is designed for students who benefit from a practical, hands-on approach and extra guidance. PRO helps students develop work skills, social skills, and independence, preparing them for life after school. After completing PRO, students can enter the labour market, continue in vocational education (usually mbo level 1 or 2), or follow work-study programmes, apprenticeships, or supported employment, depending on their abilities and career goals.
